Ron Korb completed his largest concert tour of Asia to date in September and October. The tour included:

  • several dates in Japan, featuring a special performance at Expo 2005 in Nagoya

  • seven major concert halls across China

  • a promotional tour of Singapore

  • six concerts in Taiwan, including an outdoor event at Cheng Ching Lake, Kaohsiung County for an estimated crowd of 10,000 people

About the Band


Ron Korb's recent concerts in China featured an expanded group with Ray Hickey, Jr. (guitar, Chinese pipa), Larry Crowe (drums, percussion) and new members Elizabeth Shepherd (piano), Liana Bérubé (violin), and Brandi Disterheft (bass).

    2000

    In December 2000 Ron Korb gave two performances at the THE WORLD FESTIVAL OF SACRED MUSIC in Chaing Mai, Thailand. The first one was at the opening evening concert at the beautiful historic Suan Dok Temple for an outdoor audience of over 1500. The second concert was held in Dharma Park and Heritage Gardens, Pasang, Lumphun. Ron had the pleasure of meeting Ven Lama Doboom Tulku from Tibet and the honourable Arjarn Sulak Sivaraksa from Thailand. There were performers from many countries including Cambodia, Burma, Thailand, Tibet, Bhutan, Italy, Israel, Germany, and Japan, Korea. THE WORLD FESTIVAL OF SACRED MUSIC was inspired by the vision of is His Holiness the Dalai Lama. With the central message of peace, understanding and universal responsibility, this festival is a global celebration of the human spirit as we usher in the new millennium.

    Ron Korb has performed in Asia, Europe and across the United States and Canada. He has performed at such prestigious venues as Madison Square Gardens, NY , The Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., Lincoln Center, NY, Heian Shrine in Kyoto and The Glastonbury Festival in England.


    1999

    In November 1999 Ron Korb and his group performed in the beautiful National Theatre is Casco Viejo in Panama City. This was a joint concert with the Hugh Fraser Quintet from Vancouver. This concert was sponsored by the Canadian Embassy in Panama as well as Scotiabank and Continental Airlines. Members of his band included:

    Panama

    He has done five concert tours of Japan. In 1999, Ron played a concert at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo sponsored by Domo Records and JVC Victor. The backing musicians included Jin Takuma who was the bass player from The Kuwata Band and other members from a group called Half Moon. Later in his tour he teamed up with Japanese/Bengali dancer choreographer Shakti and did three performances of their collaboration called Kojiki. They did one show in Kyoto and two at JEAN JEAN in Tokyo all to sold out audiences.

    In addition to playing on concert stages Ron Korb and his group have played in clubs like the Rivoli and Horseshoe (Toronto), Heartland Cafe (Chicago), Moby's (Salt Spring), Banana Hall (Osaka), Rag Club, Taku Taku Club (Kyoto), Shinjuku On Air (Tokyo) as well as at folk, world and jazz festivals. In 1996/97 he did a nationwide tour of Borders Books and Music and performed over 45 performances in locations from Michigan down to Texas and from New Jersey across to California traveling from San Diego up the coast as far as Tukwila Washington. During this period he also did instores in several independent record stores as well as HMV, Tower Records and Barnes and Noble.
